A. Summerbridge San Diego (SBSD) in collaboration with the San Diego Unified School District and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), San Diego State Univesity (SDSU) "Compact for Success" and the University of San Diego (USD) is a two summer tuition free, rigorous summer program serving 150 elementary and middle school students with academic classes and leadership activities. Students are taught by dedicated, talented, and highly motivated teachers composed entirely of young adults from colleges and universities nationwide. With support of master teachers, Summerbridge delegates responsibilities for teaching, curriculum development, advising, evaluation, and administration to its young staff. With bright and innovative college students opening intellectual doors, Summerbridge aims to change the way we talk and think about education. We are demonstrating that young college students can take charge of their own education while taking responsilibity for the education of those eight to ten years younger. Summerbridge San Diego challenges the conventional notion of who can achieve and who can teach.
SBSD participation helps students develop academic and social confidence and provides a distinctive opportunity to develop critical thinking skills to use in their lives, schools, and communities.
